Bee Creative
Come on a journey through the beautiful Godinton grounds with artist Gemma Gottelier. Smell bee-loving flowers and listen out for the gentle buzzing of busy bees. Spot them gathering nectar from the plentiful array of flowers and sketch them if you're quick enough! Bees are spoilt for choice at Godinton but do you know which coloured flowers they prefer and how they signal to fellow bees that there is food to forage?
Inspired by your findings, you'll hand-roll a natural beeswax candle with its amazing honeycomb texture and sweet, earthy smell, decorating it with coloured wax. You'll also create a lovely lantern for your candle using an up-cycled glass jar. You can take your candle and lantern away with you to light up your home or to enjoy in your garden on a summer's evening.
If you like stories, we'll end the workshop with a beautifully illustrated book about the busy day of a bee.
The workshop starts at 1pm and lasts for approximately 2 hours. It is suitable for families with children over the age of 5 although younger children could participate with assistance from adults. All participants booked on the workshop will be able to make a candle. Everyone booked on the workshop must purchase a ticket and all children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
The workshop ticket includes entry to the gardens for the whole day. You can book tickets here.
Garden opening times are 12:30pm - 5:30pm.
