New for 2024, this year's Sculpture exhibition is also playing host to artwork from local school children.
This year, three local schools collaborated with artist Becky Vincer to create four banners inspired by Godinton House & Gardens to form part of our Sculpture in the Garden event. Around 120 pupils from Brook Community Primary School, Smeeth Primary School and Goat Lees Primary School took part in the project. The project has been a fantastic way to involve the local community in the Sculpture in the Garden event and to give children the opportunity to have their artwork on display amongst that of professional artists.
The pupils enjoyed two full days of workshops at Godinton, learning about the history of Godinton and explored the house and gardens. They also took part in sessions with Becky, where they learnt about and tried out sublimation printing, an exciting printing process using a heat press and colourful dyes. Each child designed and printed their own piece of fabric, which Becky sewed together to create the final banners.
The theme and inspiration for each banner has come from objects and rooms of the house that capture the essence of Godinton House & Gardens.
The four banners are on display in the Walled Garden.
