Led by Godinton House's Head Gardener, Lee Woodcock, this workshop is designed to change the way you look at propagation. By the end of our session, you will walk away with an open-minded and intuitive approach to growing.

- The Big Picture: An overview of propagation by cuttings and division - what it is, why we do it, and the satisfaction of creating new life from a single parent plant.
- The Perfect Foundation: A deep dive into propagation media. Learn how to mix and select the ideal composts and substrates to give your plants the best start.
- Creating the Ideal Climate: Explore propagation environments from windowsills to specialised setups. Learn how to manage light, heat, and humidity.
- The 6 Golden Rules: Master the fundamental skills required to retrieve successful cuttings every single time.
- Division Techniques: Learn how to separate and rejuvenate established plants to keep your garden thriving.
Meet the Head Gardener:
As the Head Gardener at Godinton House, Lee brings a rare blend of historical gardening expertise and cutting-edge commercial knowledge to the classroom. With over 35 years of growing experience, many of them spent managing commercial propagation units for some of the UK’s most prestigious nurseries, his career has been defined by a deep technical understanding of how to produce healthy, quality plants at scale.
Lee was awarded the title of Propagator of the Year by the International Plant Propagators
Society (IPPS), one of the most respected accolades in the industry. He was also awarded a prestigious scholarship to study propagation systems and techniques in the Netherlands, which is widely regarded as the global epicentre of horticultural innovation. For those interested in further reading, Lee also contributed to the Horticultural Development Council (HDC) publication, “Hardy Nursery Stock Propagation Guide for Commercial Growers”.
The workshop will begin promptly at 9:30 am and end at 1:30 pm, with a break for refreshments.
Please bring secateurs and gardening gloves as this is a hands-on session, during which participants will take cuttings directly from the Godinton Gardens.
