GARDEN HISTORY – HUMPHRY REPTON AND THE PICTURESQUE
A two day course on 30th October and 6th November 2019, 10–3. Humphry Repton was the self-appointed successor to Capability Brown, although his later designs differed quite considerably and much of his success was due to his brilliant marketing tool of the ‘Red Book’. The cult of the Picturesque was an important phenomenon in the 1790s – this course will examine Repton’s garden designs and consider the effect of the Picturesque theorists, both on his work, and the wider cultural landscape. £75 including tea/coffee and home-made cake. wardroper7@gmail.com 07873726005.
