House Preparations

Over the last few weeks, the House Team has been busy working through the house making preparations to welcome visitors back in June. The two adjoining Libraries on the ground floor are now looking their best once again. These cosy rooms, separated by luxurious velvet curtains, are a peaceful place to sink into the comfortable chairs and enjoy views of the garden and park beyond, whilst reading a favourite book. The books contained within reflect the character and interests of the last owner, Alan Wyndham Green: the collection of The Royal Green Jackets Chronicles gives an insight into his army career as a Major with the Rifle Brigade, serving in North Africa and Italy and taking part in the Normandy landings;  Glyndebourne Festival Programme books indicate his devotion to opera and support of Glyndebourne (still supported by the Godinton Charitable Trust today); volumes on Chinese Porcelain hint at his passion for porcelain, building on the extensive collection of Chinese and Worcester porcelain inherited from his grandmother and mother; and his cheeky sense of humour is illustrated by the extensive collection of Punch volumes from the early 20th Century.
