Interns old, interns new & some fundraising days!

My name is Sarah, and as the new intern here at Godinton, I’ll be taking over the running of the House & Estate blogs for the year, as well as setting up an ‘In Focus’ blog once a month to explore some of the fantastic objects and architecture within Godinton in a bit more depth. I’ve spent the past four years studying History, so I couldn’t really ask for a better place to work than Godinton, where I am steeped in 700 years’ worth of it! Two weeks in and the house is slowly becoming less confusing to me, but there’s still plenty to learn on a daily basis…

During my first two weeks, some of the House team visited Godinton’s intern from 2009/10, Helen Davis, who has spent the past four and a bit years as Senior House Steward at Sissinghurst Castle Garden. Thanks to Helen, we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to explore Sissinghurst’s famous gardens after hours, and it was a great chance for me to see exactly how time at Godinton can be a very important basis for future careers in heritage.

Back in the house, September sees us beginning to wrap up open season – so if you haven’t made it down to visit us yet, now is the perfect time as the weather cools down slightly but the skies remain beautifully blue! More importantly, September sees us host two of our bigger charity events for the year: the British Red Cross Garden Open Day (Friday 13th September) is the ideal excuse to enjoy our spectacular gardens as they reach the end of summer, and the Macmillan Coffee Morning (Friday 27th September) is a great chance to sample some of Godinton’s famous sweet treats, and to help decide who wins the all-important prize of star baker amongst our staff. On both days, all the money we raise goes straight to the Red Cross and Macmillan – two very important causes we are proud to support. We hope to see many of you there!
