House Opening

What a pleasure to walk through the house and see that all the showrooms have been dusted, hoovered and de-cobwebbed, clocks wound and chiming the hours, flowers picked from the walled garden and expertly arranged by Manuela, one of our volunteer guides, bringing life to the house again. We are delighted to welcome our visitors back after such a long closure.

One of the last items in the collection to be ready in time for opening is this pretty George III style bonheur du jour, which was badly water damaged following a leaking radiator pipe last October. After allowing the saturated and swollen wood to dry out for several weeks, our furniture conservator, Eveliina Peltola, has carefully restored this by stabilising the loose veneers on the top and around the drawer, stripping the damaged polish, then colouring and repolishing. Look out for it in the White Room when you visit.

Our house tours are all filling up fast, so book early to avoid disappointment.
