To continue last month’s creative theme, another talented resident, Joel Tarr is preparing for Sculpture in the Gardens. Joel has a workshop on the estate where he uses traditional blacksmith techniques to create beautiful metal forms. Joel exhibited at last year’s Sculpture in the Gardens and was incredibly popular with all the visitors. We are very excited to have him back again.
Joel is a self taught blacksmith who has a wide variety of bespoke commissions ranging from garden gates to animal sculptures and even the brackets holding Godinton’s 17th Century turret clock in place in the Stables. Joel originally took up blacksmithing as a distraction from illness but within 6 months quit his job to make blacksmithing his career. Joel says he loves the versatility of the steel, discovering new techniques and creating new ideas.

Don’t miss seeing Joel’s work during Sculpture in the Gardens, 22nd July to 13th August.
