Die Gärten sind offen für die 2019 season and the fabulously warm February has got everything off to a flying start – especially the bees. At this time of year it’s all about these bright little jewels – crocuses, hepaticas and japanese quince.
The deep blue skies and bright light of this Indian summer make everything in the garden a bit more spectacular. Fruit crops have been fantastic – the quince trees loved this long, hot summer and our potato harvest was smaller in numbers but these Cara potatoes were the size of rugby balls!

Towards the end of a rather gloomy winter it gives us all a huge boost to find something cheerful appearing in the garden every day. Miniature Narcissus, Chionodoxa or even a beautiful Turkey Tail fungus growing on a rotting stump.
However difficult it makes our lives for a few days (hopefully) we all enjoy the transformation. The garden ninjas know how to dress for the weather but we’re trying to find potting shed and greenhouse jobs – not too far from the kettle.
