The gardens open daily again from this Sunday at 1pm for the start of the 2015 season with a few very cheery little gems brightening the borders. This hellebore is one which has avoided the attentions of a voracious army of mice who have been raiding hellebore buds and spring bulbs. Any brave souls heading our way over the next couple of weeks may need their wellies while we are working on new border and path layouts.
Very exciting to be adding some planting to our Long Border although sadly it has partly been prompted by the loss of our fantastic copper beech and the ancient lime tree which sat in the centre of the path. We also had to fell a large chestnut and sycamore which were becoming unsafe. The chestnut will be turned into a bench where it fell in the Wild Garden.
We have planted nine new trees in the Wild Garden this winter to help us recover from the losses!
Work is also in progress on the stables ticket office and tea room so we’ll be back to self service drinks in the greenhouse for a couple of weeks.
