Evellina Peltola, is a furniture restorer with a workshop on the Godinton Estate, and two members of the house staff spent a week sanding the rather tired looking Tea Room floor. The sanding was all done by hand due to the age and varying wear and tear of the floorboards. It was amazing seeing how different the wood looked under the varnish, and how dusty the staff members got.
After a very thorough clean, Evellina finished the floor with two coats of varnish, which was left to dry for several days.
We are now thoroughly cleaning the Tearoom including hanging the curtains and cleaning chandeliers ready for the NGS Day Opening on 26th March.
