Gardens open for the season

We are very happy to be welcoming visitors to the gardens again for the start of the new season. The wild garden is putting on a fabulous show of daffodils, primroses, fritillaries and anemones. Promise of spring

The very welcome signs of spring have been early this year. Crocuses, snowdrops, hellebores, cyclamen and a few early daffodils have been flowering since January. The joys of January

Back to work in a dank, gloomy but surprisingly warm January and we’re working off those mince pies and Christmas puddings with a bit of leaf clearing. There is never a month in the garden without flowers and this drunkenly dangling honey bee is enjoying the deliciously scented Lonicera fragrans as much as we are.Finde mehr heraus

Cherry season

The flowering season of ornamental cherries is short (especially if hit by bad weather) but stunning and this years display of magnolias and cherries is making up for the poor daffodil showing after last years dry season.   We have scattered Scilla siberica bulbs around the garden and hope they will naturalise to give usFinde mehr heraus

The daffodil meadow is starting to bloom and should be at its peak for Mothers Day. Some of the other plants are as confused by our weather as we are. New ‘Growing Annualsworkshop for 2018

Head Gardener, Viv Hunt, is preparing for a new workshop on Saturday 21st of April all about annuals. She’ll be looking at what to grow to fill borders, pots and vases with colour all through the season. Feels Like Spring

  The rose pruning is nearly complete now with some of the unruly shrubs being tamed into basket shapes for maximum flower power.   The Platanus x hispanica (London Plane) looking fabulous in the winter sunshine.
