After the Christmas events, the Great Hall underwent conservation cleaning. The barrel vaulted ceiling, installed in the 17th Century by Captain Nicholas Toke complete with gold rosettes, was carefully cleaned of dust and cobwebs. To reach the ceiling, some 25 foot high, a tower scaffold was needed with platforms at mid and high levels from which Godinton staff could reach all areas of the ceiling. A particularly adventurous spider had spun a web from the main tie beam across to the crown post spanning over 6 feet! As the scaffold was moved around the Hall, time was taken to fully inspect the fabric of the building and check fixings and fittings.
